Filament Spool Holder with Bearings
A spool that does not turn freely drags on the extruder, and on a bowden setup that drag shows up as under-extrusion halfway through a print. Two 608 skate bearings — the cheapest precision part you can buy — remove the problem entirely.

What actually matters
- The bearing seat is the one dimension that must be right. Print a 10 mm test ring first — a bearing should press in with thumb pressure and stay put, not spin loose or crack the seat.
- Do not lubricate the bearings. Oil attracts dust and the drag from a dirty bearing is worse than a dry one.
- If the spool wobbles, your axle is undersized. 8 mm nominal often measures 7.8 mm once printed.
Questions
Where do I get 608 bearings?
They are standard skateboard bearings — any hardware or hobby shop, usually sold in packs of eight for very little.
Can I print this without bearings?
You can, using a plain axle, but there is noticeably more drag. Generate the plain version if you would rather not source parts.
