French Cleat Tool Holder
French cleat walls are the most flexible workshop storage there is: one 45° rail and every holder can move anywhere. Printed cleats work well as long as you respect the load — the 45° face transfers weight into the wall, but a printed hook still has printed-plastic limits.

What actually matters
- Print back-plate-down. The 45° face then prints as a self-supporting overhang and the layers run across the load path.
- Add the bottom spacer. Without it a holder lifts off the rail when you pull a tool upward.
- For anything heavy — a circular saw, a big drill — use a wooden cleat and print only the cradle. Plastic has its limits.
Questions
What angle should my rail be?
45° is the de facto standard and what this matches. If your existing rail is 30°, generate to that angle instead.
How much weight can a printed cleat hold?
Around 3 kg in PETG with four perimeters. Beyond that the plastic creeps over time even if it does not break outright.
